The Dark World of Demon Lords and Braves
The anime delves into a mid-21st century Tokyo where the criminal underworld is dominated by “Demon Lords” – mafia members who have undergone “ether-enhancement surgery,” granting them formidable superpowers. To combat these formidable foes, bounty hunters known as “Braves” emerge, utilizing a drug called E3 to boost their own ether abilities. In this world, killing is legalized for Braves, making their profession one of literal murder.
The story centers on Yashiro, a freelance hero dubbed “Shinigami” (Grim Reaper), who initially desires a simple life of pizza, beer, and card games. His mundane existence is disrupted when he reluctantly takes on Aki Jogamine, a high school girl aspiring to be a hero, as his apprentice. This partnership quickly drags Yashiro into a series of dangerous and “thoroughly rotten incidents.”
