The upcoming TV anime adaptation of Jinushi’s popular manga, “Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You” (Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari), has officially announced its main voice cast. The romantic comedy series, slated for a 2026 broadcast, will feature Takuya Sato as Sasaki and Seena Hoshiki as Yamada/Tayama. The cast revelation came via a new video released on September 20, 2025.
Key Voice Actors Join the Adaptation
Takuya Sato, known for his role as Rick in “The Ossan Newbie Adventurer,” will lend his voice to Sasaki, the disillusioned office worker at the heart of the story. Joining him is Seena Hoshiki, who will portray the dual roles of Yamada, the cheerful supermarket cashier, and her more free-spirited alter ego, Tayama. This casting announcement builds anticipation for the anime, which was initially revealed on July 18, 2025.
A Look at the Story and Its Origins
“Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You” centers on Sasaki, a middle-aged salaryman who finds his only comfort in smoking and the warm interactions with Yamada, a cashier at his local supermarket. One evening, after a particularly arduous day, Sasaki, unable to find Yamada, encounters a striking woman named Tayama at a smoking spot behind the supermarket. Unbeknownst to Sasaki, Tayama is, in fact, Yamada expressing a different facet of her personality. Their casual conversations at the smoking area form the core of this unique adult drama.
The original manga, written and illustrated by Jinushi, began as a webcomic on Twitter (now X) in March 2022. Its immense popularity led to serialization in Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine starting in August 2022. The series quickly garnered critical acclaim, winning first place in the Web Manga category of the Next Manga Award 2022.
Production Details and Release Window
The television anime adaptation is scheduled to premiere nationwide on the TBS Network in 2026. Further details regarding the animation staff and an exact release date are expected to be announced as production continues. Jinushi, the manga’s creator, also provided a special illustration to commemorate the anime announcement earlier this year.
