Yūdai Debata’s popular manga series, Solo Camping for Two (known as Futari Solo Camp in Japan), is set to enter an indefinite hiatus due to the author’s health. The announcement was made in the 32nd issue of Kodansha’s Morning magazine on Thursday, though no specific return date was provided.
The series, which follows the adventures of 34-year-old solo camper Gen Kinokura and 20-year-old college student Shizuku Kusano as they embark on “solo camping for two,” has garnered a significant following. Initially serialized in Kodansha’s Evening magazine from October 2018 to February 2023, the manga moved to the Comic Days app for a brief period before resuming serialization in Morning in December 2023. As of April 2025, 20 tankōbon volumes of the manga have been released.
The news of the hiatus comes as the series recently saw both a live-action television drama adaptation, which aired from January to February 2025, and an anime television series adaptation, scheduled to premiere in July 2025.
Author health issues leading to manga hiatuses are not uncommon in the demanding Japanese manga industry. Mangaka often work under intense schedules, with long hours and tight deadlines, which can take a significant toll on their well-being.
