The Story So Far and What to Expect
“Spice & Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf” is a completely new anime series that retells the original light novel story by Isuna Hasekura, with illustrations by Jyuu Ayakura. The narrative follows Kraft Lawrence, a solitary traveling merchant, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Holo, a wise wolf deity who can take the form of a beautiful young woman. Holo, who once blessed harvests in the countryside, yearns to return to her northern homeland, and Lawrence agrees to take her on his journey. Their travels involve economic adventures and the forging of a unique and deep bond.
The first season, which debuted in April 2024, aired for two consecutive cours and was streamed by Crunchyroll, including an English dub. The confirmation of a second season suggests an intention to adapt more of the extensive light novel series, offering fans a more complete animated experience than previous adaptations. While a specific release window for Season 2 has not yet been revealed, the early announcement and detailed staff information indicate that production is well underway.
The original light novel series, which concluded in 2019 with 22 volumes, and its ongoing sequel novel, Wolf and Parchment, are published in English by Yen Press. The confirmation of a second season for “Spice & Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf” holds the promise of exploring more of Lawrence and Holo’s intricate relationship and their economic escapades.
