The Spider-Man: Kizuna manga, a unique collaboration between writer Setta Kobayashi and artist Hachi Mizuno, has concluded its serialization in the July issue of Shueisha’s Saikyō Jump magazine, released on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. This announcement marks the end of a captivating series that blended the classic Spider-Man mythos with a fresh, Japanese perspective.

A Bond Forged in Ohakama City

Spider-Man: Kizuna tells the story of Yu, a timid young boy living in the fictional Ohakama City, Japan. Yu’s life takes an extraordinary turn when he’s attacked by the Green Goblin. Fortunately, Spider-Man intervenes, but during the battle, a device activated by the villain merges Yu and Spider-Man together. This fusion bestows Yu with Spider-Man’s incredible abilities, setting him on a journey to find courage and protect his city from various threats.

The series explores the “kizuna” (bond) between Yu and Spider-Man as they navigate this unusual situation. Yu must learn to control his newfound powers while grappling with the responsibility of being a hero. The manga delves into themes of courage, friendship, and the challenges of balancing personal life with superhero duties.

From One-Shot to Serialization

The journey of Spider-Man: Kizuna began as a one-shot manga in Saikyō Jump’s September 2022 issue. Its positive reception led to a full serialization, which commenced in the magazine in October 2023. Over the course of its run, the manga has captivated readers with its blend of action, comedy, and heartfelt moments. Shueisha published the manga’s third compiled book volume on April 4, 2025.

Viz Media Brings Kizuna to English Readers

Fans outside of Japan will soon have the opportunity to experience Spider-Man: Kizuna for themselves. Viz Media has licensed the manga for English release, with the first volume scheduled to hit shelves on July 8, 2025. This release will introduce Yu’s story to a wider audience, allowing them to witness his transformation from a timid boy into a courageous hero.

The Creative Team Behind the Web

Setta Kobayashi, the writer of Spider-Man: Kizuna, is also known for his work on the Black Clover official spinoff gag manga, Asta-kun Mahōtei e no Michi (Asta’s Journey to Wizard King). Hachi Mizuno, the artist, brought the characters and action to life with his dynamic and expressive artwork.

Other Works by Setta Kobayashi

Besides Spider-Man: Kizuna and the Black Clover spinoff, Setta Kobayashi has also been involved in other manga projects, including Kaiki Kūkan Zo-Zo-Zo-Zone, which he created with Ayumi Nakashima. This manga ran in Saikyō Jump from September 2022 to July 2024.

A New Chapter for Spider-Man in Manga

Spider-Man: Kizuna adds to the diverse world of Spider-Man adaptations and interpretations. By transplanting the hero to Japan and focusing on the bond between Spider-Man and a young boy, the manga offers a unique take on the beloved character. As the series concludes, it leaves behind a legacy of thrilling adventures and heartwarming connections.
