At a Japan Expo panel dedicated to Studio Khara’s new Sugar Sugar Rune anime short, it was announced that Moyoco Anno’s beloved Sugar Sugar Rune manga will resume sales in the United States, Italy, and Taiwan starting in 2026. Udon Entertainment is confirmed to be the publisher for the manga’s release in the U.S.. This announcement was made during Japan Expo 2025 in Paris.
The panel’s primary focus was also the revelation of new anime projects for the series by Studio Khara, including a prequel short film titled “SUGAR SUGAR RUNE Les deux sorcières.” This short commemorates the 20th anniversary of the original Sugar Sugar Rune TV anime series, which premiered in 2005. The news of the manga’s re-release alongside new anime endeavors signals a resurgence of interest in Anno’s magical girl series, offering new and old fans alike the chance to experience the enchanting story of Chocolat and Vanilla.
