Ryo Hino, from NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan’s Anime & Music Production Division, serves as the producer and project manager, expressing his honor to be part of such a significant project. NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan is also handling the general production of the series.
Suikoden: The Anime is a landmark project for Konami, as it is the first full anime series to be produced by their recently established in-house studio, Konami Animation. The studio aims to leverage Konami’s expertise in game CGI and production know-how to create a high-end anime.
A Glimpse into the World: New Visual Highlights Key Duo
A new key visual was released to celebrate the announcement, offering fans a poignant glimpse into the anime’s aesthetic. The visual depicts Riou (Riliu) and Jowy Atreides seated together by a campfire, gazing up at a starlit sky. This quiet, emotional scene is reflective of an early, pivotal moment in the original game, hinting at the deep bond between the two friends before their lives are irrevocably altered by war. The visual aims to capture the magical fervor of the original game and was shared across official Suikoden: The Anime accounts.
What to Expect from the Adaptation
The anime is a direct adaptation of Suikoden II, one of the most beloved JRPGs released for the PlayStation in 1998. It will follow the intricate story of Riou and Jowy, two childhood friends thrust onto opposing sides of a brutal conflict following a failed peace treaty between the Highland Kingdom and the City-States of Jowston. The narrative delves into themes of betrayal, loyalty, and survival, focusing on the game’s expansive cast of over 140 characters, including the iconic 108 Stars of Destiny.
This anime adaptation follows the successful March 2025 release of Suikoden I&II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, which rekindled interest in the franchise across multiple platforms. Konami views the anime as a crucial “second step” in reviving the Suikoden IP, aiming to attract both long-time fans and introduce newcomers to its rich world and dramatic storytelling. While an exact broadcast schedule will be announced later, the 2026 premiere is eagerly awaited by fans worldwide.
