Sun Takeda’s action manga series, Guardian, is set to conclude its serialization in the next issue of Shonengahosha’s Young King Ours magazine on August 29. The announcement was made in the September issue of the magazine on Wednesday.
A Brief Run for a Superhuman Saga
Guardian first launched in Young King Ours in March 2024, making its run a relatively short one. The series quickly garnered attention as it marked the return of Sun Takeda, known for the popular manga Gleipnir, which also received an anime adaptation.
The Premise of Guardian
The Guardian manga plunges readers into a world where “superhumans”—individuals with partially or fully mutated bodies—have emerged. The story centers on Kanata Arakawa, a superhuman nicknamed “Rocket Man,” who possesses immense strength capable of destroying colossal monsters with a single blow. However, unlike a typical hero, Kanata utilizes his powers for his own agenda rather than for heroic causes. The series is categorized as a seinen manga, focusing on action and fantastical elements.
Sun Takeda’s Previous Works
Prior to Guardian, Sun Takeda gained significant recognition for Gleipnir, a supernatural action series that ran from October 2015 to April 2023. Gleipnir was initially serialized in Young Magazine the 3rd before moving to Monthly Young Magazine and inspired a television anime adaptation that premiered in April 2020. Takeda has also worked on other manga titles, including Aruite Ippo!!, Haru to Natsu, and Kore Kutte Meshi!
