Takashi Shiina, the acclaimed mangaka behind popular series such as Zettai Karen Children and the recent manga adaptation of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, is set to launch a brand new manga titled Kurogane no Mabito (Iron Denizens). The new heroic saga will premiere in the February 2026 issue of Shogakukan’s Shōnen Sunday S magazine, scheduled for release on December 25.
The announcement, made via the January 2026 issue of the magazine, indicates that Kurogane no Mabito will feature a color opening page and grace the front cover of its debut issue.
A New Heroic Saga: Kurogane no Mabito
Kurogane no Mabito is teased as a heroic saga that will follow young protagonists with supernatural abilities as they confront supernatural threats. The narrative is set three years after the conclusion of a global conflict against invading creatures from another world, suggesting a post-apocalyptic or recovery setting ripe for new challenges and discoveries. This premise aligns with Shiina’s previous works, which often blend action, supernatural elements, and compelling characters.
Shiina’s Recent Works and Legacy
The launch of Kurogane no Mabito follows closely on the heels of the conclusion of Shiina’s Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon manga adaptation. That series, which brought to life the anime spinoff of Rumiko Takahashi’s Inuyasha, ended its serialization in Shōnen Sunday S on June 25, 2025. Shogakukan published its tenth and final compiled book volume on August 18, 2025. Viz Media has been responsible for releasing the Yashahime manga in print and simultaneously publishing new digital chapters.
Prior to his work on Yashahime, Takashi Shiina was widely known for his long-running sci-fi comedy series, Zettai Karen Children. This manga ran for an impressive 16 years, beginning in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 2005 and concluding in July 2021. Zettai Karen Children inspired a 52-episode television anime series in 2008 and a 2010 original video anime adaptation, with Sentai Filmworks releasing the series as Psychic Squad in North America. A spin-off anime, The Unlimited – Hyōbu Kyōsuke, also aired in 2013.
Shiina’s consistent output and his ability to craft engaging stories across different genres have solidified his position as a prominent figure in the manga industry. Fans eagerly await to see how he builds upon his previous successes with Kurogane no Mabito.
