The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Akiharu Tōka’s popular manga, “The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess” (Tensei Akujo no Kuro Rekishi), officially premiered in Japan on October 8, 2025, bringing the beloved romantic comedy isekai to the screen. International audiences can stream the series with English subtitles on Crunchyroll, which began on October 9, 2025, with an English dub following closely on October 22, 2025.
A New Isekai Adventure Begins
The anime series transports viewers into the whimsical yet perilous world crafted by Konoha Satou, an office worker tragically reincarnated as Iana Magnolia, the notorious villainess of her own adolescent fantasy novel, “The Dark History.” To avoid the grim fate she penned for Iana – execution after attempting to murder her elder sister, also named Konoha – the protagonist must strategically navigate the plot, unintentionally altering the story she once meticulously created. Her frantic attempts to survive and protect her sister often lead to comical misunderstandings, as her “evil” actions are frequently misinterpreted as heroic deeds.
Production Details and Creative Team
The anime is produced by Studio DEEN, known for its work on various popular titles. Hiroaki Sakurai, celebrated for directing series like “The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.”, helms the project. Mitsutaka Hirota, recognized for his work on “Edens Zero” and “Rent-A-Girlfriend”, oversees the series composition. Character designs are handled by Tomoyo Sawada, while Ryūichi Takada of MONACA composes the music.
Opening and Ending Theme Songs
Adding to the immersive experience are the vibrant theme songs. The opening theme, “Black Flame,” is performed by KID PHENOMENON from EXILE TRIBE, while the ending theme, “Rengene” (リジェネ), is performed by Zerofrom.
