Episode 7 of “The Too-Perfect Saint: Tossed Aside by My Fiancé and Sold to Another Kingdom” sees Mia Adenauer continuing her efforts to save the kingdom of Girtonia from the machinations of her former fiancé, Prince Julius. With the help of her escort knight, Pierre, Mia seeks to enlist the aid of the First Prince, Fernando Ziltonia, who has been confined. Meanwhile, Philia, still in Parnacorta, searches for ways to help from afar.
Mia’s Plea to Prince Fernand
Mia, accompanied by her newly appointed escort knight Pierre, is taken to the room where Prince Fernando is being held. She informs Fernando of Julius’s actions and pleads with him to join her in the fight against his brother. Mia hopes to empower Prince Fernand and expose Julius’s crimes.
Fernand, however, is not easily swayed. He is convinced that he is better off sick or dead, believing he could never stand up to Julius. He stopped taking the cure that Philia found because he fears that if he gets better, Julius will turn on him and try to take the throne. Despite knowing how terrible Julius is, Fernand is afraid to care and doesn’t believe he could triumph over his younger brother.
Mia doesn’t give up. The way she wears Prince Fernand down shows that she’s clever. She is determined to get him to overcome his fears and step up to save Girtonia.
Philia’s Distant Support
While Mia is in Girtonia, Philia remains in Parnacorta, searching for a way to help from afar. Himari updates Philia about Julius’s plot and Mia’s efforts. Philia sends Mia an improved medicine recipe and warns her not to act rashly.
Julius’s Descent
As Mia and Philia work to undermine him, Julius continues his descent into darkness. He dismisses Mia’s warnings about a demon invasion, which Philia foresaw. The King, however, takes Mia seriously and chastises Julius for exiling Philia without approval.
On patrol, Mia exposes Julius’s cowardice during a monster attack. Meanwhile, the demons Erza and Mammon continue their plan to resurrect the archdemon Asmodeus, using Julius’s ambition and ignorance to their advantage. A demon-possessed Marquis Pyrz tempts Julius with a hidden relic.
Julius is squandering money on a vanity project and doesn’t care about the warnings. He is growing more reckless and easily manipulated by demonic influence.
Themes and Analysis
Episode 7 delves into the characters’ internal struggles and motivations. Three of the four Girtonian characters don’t believe in themselves. Philia believes she’ll never be good enough, Mia worries she’s never going to live up to her sister, and Fernand is convinced that he’s better off sick or dead. Only Julius believes in himself too much, to the point where he’s delusional.
Fernand’s fear is a major obstacle in Mia’s plan. He is afraid that if he gets better, Julius will turn on him and destroy the kingdom trying to take the throne. He believes that primogeniture is stupid anyway and doesn’t want to be king.
Mia, on the other hand, is determined to do things her way as the 29th Saint and plans to back Crown Prince Fernand to save her kingdom from Julius. She is learning to believe in herself and trust others.
The episode also highlights the contrast between Girtonia and Parnacorta. The Parnacortan characters don’t seem to suffer from the same lack of self-belief as the Girtonian characters. This suggests that this is a symptom of Girtonian culture’s decline.
