The popular isekai fantasy light novel series, The Strongest Man, Born From Misfortune, also known as Fuun kara no Saikyou Otoko in Japan, is officially getting a television anime adaptation. Japanese publisher Starts Publishing Corporation made the announcement on Tuesday, September 15, 2025.
The series has garnered significant attention, with the cumulative number of copies published for its entire franchise, including print and digital editions of both the manga and novel, surpassing 1.5 million.
From Web Novel to Anime: The Series’ Journey
The Strongest Man, Born From Misfortune originated as a web novel serialized by author Fukufuku on the Japanese novel self-publishing website Shousetsuka ni Narou, beginning in November 2020. Starts Publishing Corporation later picked up the series, releasing the first print volume with illustrations by Zunn Nakabayashi in March 2022. As of March 2025, four volumes of the light novel have been released.
A manga adaptation, also illustrated by Zunn Nakabayashi, began serialization in Starts Publishing’s Comic Glast online manga magazine in October 2021. The manga has since released eight compiled book volumes, with the eighth volume shipping on September 26, 2025. MangaPlaza is releasing the digital English version of the manga under the title The Strongest Man, Born From Misfortune.
What is ‘The Strongest Man, Born From Misfortune’ About?
The story follows Siegbert, a man who, after a life plagued by misfortune, is reborn into a new world after an accident. In his previous life, he was overwhelmed by bad luck, but in this new existence, it seems his luck has dramatically reversed.
Siegbert is reborn into a warm and welcoming family, leading him to believe he might finally live a peaceful life. However, he soon discovers he possesses an abnormally high “luck stat” in this new world. This extreme luck attracts “chances” that, if seized, can make his wishes come true. The catch is that these “chances” often come with formidable enemies and life-or-death situations, forcing Siegbert to overcome these challenges with his immense magical power and “appraisal eye” to protect those around him. The narrative explores the idea that “Fortune and Misfortune are two sides of the same coin.”
