The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Kōki Fuyutsuki’s light novel series, The Too-Perfect Saint: Tossed Aside by My Fiancé and Sold to Another Kingdom, has officially announced its premiere date for April 2025. Along with this exciting news, a new key visual has been unveiled, offering fans a glimpse into the series’ aesthetic. The anime, produced by TROYCA, is generating considerable buzz among fans of fantasy and romance genres.

Premiere and Broadcast Details

The anime is scheduled to begin broadcasting in April, with confirmed air dates on TV Tokyo, TV Aichi, and BS Asahi. For those eager to get a head start, an advanced screening of the first two episodes will be held at TOHO CINEMAS Ueno on February 8th. This early premiere provides a special opportunity for fans to experience the series ahead of its official television debut.

Storyline and Premise

The Too-Perfect Saint follows the story of Philia, a saint revered for her extraordinary abilities. Coming from a family with a long line of saints, Philia is engaged to the second prince, Julius. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when Julius abruptly calls off their engagement, claiming that Philia’s perfection makes her “charmless and unlikable.” Adding insult to injury, she is then sold off to the neighboring kingdom of Parnacorta in exchange for resources.

Philia, now in a new land, is surprised to find that her saintly duties are not as demanding as they were in her homeland. She discovers that she doesn’t need to manage all of a kingdom’s issues single-handedly unless explicitly asked. Meanwhile, back in Ziltonia, the kingdom begins to fall into disarray as citizens struggle to do their jobs without Philia’s constant intervention. This creates a looming sense of doom over her former home. Despite initial apprehension about her new circumstances, Philia receives a warm welcome and quickly puts her skills to good use, creating protective barriers and curing outbreaks.

Key Visual and Character Design

The newly released key visual showcases Philia and Mia Adenauer against a stained-glass-like backdrop, symbolizing the importance of their roles within the narrative. Shuhei Yamamoto, known for his work on Beast Tamer, is handling the character designs, promising a visually appealing series with unique character styles.

The Talented Cast

The anime boasts a talented cast of voice actors who bring the characters to life:

  • Yui Ishikawa as Philia, the titular “too-perfect saint.” Ishikawa’s past roles include 2B in NieR:Automata Ver1.1a.
  • Kaede Hondo as Mia Adenauer. Hondo’s previous work includes Yuna in Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister.
  • Takuya Satō as Oswald Parnacorta. Satō has been featured as Dino in Delico’s Nursery.
  • Kōhei Amasaki as Julius Ziltonia. Amasaki previously voiced Will in Wistoria: Wand and Sword.
  • Shinnosuke Tachibana as Reichert Parnacorta. Tachibana is known for his role as Yukari in The Demon Prince of Momochi House.
  • Sora Tokui as Riina. Tokui’s past work includes Akari in JUJUTSU KAISEN.
  • Ken Narita as Leonard. Narita is famous for voicing Sesshomaru in InuYasha.
  • Kanna Nakamura as Himari. Nakamura previously voiced Alicia in I’ll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History.

Production Team

The anime is directed by Shuu Watanabe, who is known for his work on Naruto Shippūden and Shinobi no Ittoki. Keiichirō Ōchi, is overseeing the series scripts. Ōchi has worked on The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses and The Quintessential Quintuplets. The scripts are also being written by Takayo Ikami (Brothers Conflict, Assassins Pride) and Sayaka Harada. The music is composed by Takaaki Nakahashi (Peach Boy Riverside).

Light Novel and Manga Adaptations

The original light novel series was written by Kōki Fuyutsuki and illustrated by Masami. It was first serialized on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website from July 2020 to January 2022, and later acquired by Overlap. Overlap began publishing it under their Overlap Novels imprint in April 2021. The series currently consists of seven volumes as of December 2024. A manga adaptation illustrated by Mago Ayakita began serialization on Overlap’s Comic Gardo manga service in November 2021. Both the light novels and the manga have been licensed for English release by Seven Seas Entertainment.

TROYCA: The Animation Studio

The animation for The Too-Perfect Saint is being produced by studio TROYCA. TROYCA is known for its high-quality animation work on series such as Re:Creators, Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note, and YUREI DECO. This well-regarded studio is expected to deliver a visually stunning and faithful adaptation of the source material.

Genre and Appeal

The Too-Perfect Saint combines elements of fantasy, romance, and comedy, creating a unique blend that appeals to a broad audience. The storyline’s themes of self-worth, unexpected friendships, and political intrigue add depth to the narrative, making it more than just a light-hearted romantic comedy. The series explores the idea that being “perfect” might not be as desirable as one would think, and that embracing individuality is essential for true happiness.

Anticipation and Fan Response

With the April premiere fast approaching, fan excitement is at an all-time high. The announcement of the broadcast details and the release of the key visual have further amplified the buzz around the anime. Fans of the light novel series are eager to see their favorite characters brought to life, while newcomers to the series are intrigued by the unique premise. The anime is poised to become a standout title in the Spring 2025 season.
