Story and Production Team
“This Monster Wants to Eat Me” is based on Sai Naekawa’s yuri horror manga, which has been serialized in ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Maoh magazine since August 2020. Yen Press publishes the English-language version of the manga.
The synopsis centers on Hinako, a high school student with a troubled past who lives by the sea. Plagued by a sensation of drowning, her mundane life takes a dark turn when a monster attempts to eat her. She is rescued by a beautiful mermaid named Shiori, who offers protection until Hinako matures into the “perfect meal.” This unique premise sets the stage for an unlikely and complex relationship between monster and prey.
The anime adaptation is being produced by Studio Lings, with Infinite handling general production. Naoyuki Kuzuya (known for Saiyuki Gaiden) serves as chief director, while Yūsuke Suzuki (Duel Masters Win) is directing the series. Mitsutaka Hirota (Bibliophile Princess) is responsible for overseeing and writing the series scripts, and Nozomi Ikuyama is handling character designs. The music for the series is composed by Keiji Inai (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?).

The voice cast for the main characters includes:
