Aquaplus has released an official trailer for the highly anticipated 3D remake of the love adventure game, ToHeart. The trailer introduces the heroines and offers a look at the updated visuals. The game is set to launch on June 26 for PC via Steam worldwide and for Nintendo Switch in Japan.
A Heartfelt Return
ToHeart, a classic visual novel that originally debuted in 1997, is making a comeback with completely remade 3D visuals. The remake promises to deliver a “heartful love comedy” that has captivated Japanese hearts for over two decades. The game features updated art in full high-definition and modern Windows support. Players can choose between classic or all-new voiceovers, and the game will support English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese languages.
Meet the Heroines
The new trailer introduces several key characters, each with their own unique personality and story:
- Lemmy Miyauchi: Voiced by Ai Fukuda (originally Rumi Kasahara), Lemmy is a girl in the protagonist’s year who was born in California to an international couple. Her cheerful, easygoing personality and flashy style give off a stereotypically American vibe, but she has a demure Japanese woman in her heart.
- Kotone Himekawa: Voiced by Yuka Nukui (originally Kyoko Hikami), Kotone is one year younger than the protagonist, Hiroyuki. She is often avoided by other students due to supernatural phenomena surrounding her. She is quiet and reserved, but slowly opens her heart as Hiroyuki befriends her.
- Hikari Kamigashi: Voiced by Yuko Gibu (originally Ayako Kawasumi), Hikari is Akari Kamigishi’s mother. She is a kind and gentle woman who loves children and works as a tutor for cooking and traditional Japanese dress. Her voice sounds so much like Akari’s that even the protagonist sometimes gets them confused.
- George Miyauchi: Voiced by Hiroki Maeda (originally Takeshi Kuwabara), George is Lemmy Miyauchi’s father. He is a family man with Hollywood good looks and a friendly personality, working as the CEO of a trading company.
Story and Gameplay
ToHeart is a multiple-ending visual novel where the protagonist is an ordinary young man whose friends make every day a happy one. As winter turns to spring, the wind carries a whisper of love. The gameplay follows a branching plotline with multiple endings, offering pre-determined scenarios and courses of interaction based on the player’s decisions.
A Visual Novel Legend
The original ToHeart sparked two anime series and a sequel, ToHeart 2, in 2004. The remake marks the first time the story has been officially localized with English text, making it a big deal for visual novel lovers.
