Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block has officially announced the acquisition of the highly anticipated anime series Dan Da Dan, set to premiere on July 26, 2025, at 12:30 a.m. EDT (effectively July 27) in the United States. This addition marks a significant new entry for the long-running action block, which has been a staple for introducing Western audiences to popular anime.
A New Supernatural Comedy Joins the Lineup
Dan Da Dan is based on the manga series by Yukinobu Tatsu, known for its unique blend of paranormal mystery, battle, and romantic comedy. The story follows Momo Ayase, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums who believes in ghosts but not aliens, and her classmate Ken Takakura, nicknamed Okarun, an occult fanatic who believes in aliens but denies ghosts exist. Their clashing beliefs lead them to investigate supernatural occurrences, encountering overwhelming paranormal activities that transcend comprehension. Amidst these predicaments, Momo awakens a hidden power, and Okarun gains the power of a curse, embarking on an occult battle and adolescence story.
The anime adaptation is produced by Science Saru and directed by Fūga Yamashiro. The first season of Dan Da Dan originally premiered in Japan on October 3, 2024, on TBS and MBS, with Netflix and Crunchyroll streaming it worldwide. A second season debuted on July 3, 2025, also streaming on Crunchyroll. GKIDS had previously acquired the theatrical, videogram, and digital transactional rights to the series in June 2024.
Toonami’s Expanding Schedule
Dan Da Dan will join a robust Toonami lineup that includes other popular series. On July 26, the schedule will feature Dragon Ball Daima at 12:00 a.m. EDT, followed by Dan Da Dan at 12:30 a.m. EDT. Other shows on the block for that night include Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, One Piece, Lazarus (subtitled), and Naruto. This acquisition is part of Toonami’s ongoing efforts to refresh its programming, following recent additions like Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War and Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga in May 2025, and Dragon Ball Daima in June 2025.
