Adult Swim’s venerable Toonami programming block is set to expand its roster with the highly anticipated addition of Dan Da Dan, a paranormal mystery battle and romantic comedy anime. The series, adapted from Yukinobu Tatsu’s popular manga, will make its broadcast television premiere in the United States on Saturday, July 26, at 12:30 a.m. EDT (effectively, July 27).
A Supernatural Love Story Joins the Block
Dan Da Dan introduces audiences to Momo Ayase, a high school girl who firmly believes in ghosts but dismisses the existence of aliens, and her classmate Ken Takakura, nicknamed “Okarun,” who holds the opposite view—a believer in aliens but a skeptic of ghosts. Their differing convictions lead to a bet, with Momo venturing to an abandoned hospital rumored to be a UFO hotspot and Okarun heading to a supposedly haunted tunnel. Their individual expeditions plunge them into a world of overwhelming paranormal encounters that defy comprehension. Amidst these bizarre predicaments, Momo awakens a hidden power, while Okarun gains the power of a curse, enabling them to confront these new dangers. The series is described as an occult battle and coming-of-age story that also intertwines a fateful romantic comedy.
The anime is produced by Science SARU, known for its distinctive animation style and previous works like Devilman Crybaby and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!. Fūga Yamashiro directs the series, with Hiroshi Seko handling the scripts, Naoyuki Onda designing the characters, and Kensuke Ushio composing the music. The first season of Dan Da Dan originally premiered in Japan on October 3, 2024, and was streamed worldwide on Netflix and Crunchyroll. A second season debuted in July 2025, also available on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
Bolstering Toonami’s Saturday Night Lineup
Dan Da Dan is poised to become a key component of Toonami’s robust Saturday night schedule. Its slot at 12:30 a.m. EDT places it directly after Dragon Ball Daima and before other fan favorites such as Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, One Piece, Lazarus (subtitled), and Naruto. This strategic placement aims to capture a wide audience, sandwiching the new series between established “shonen heavy hitters”. The acquisition of Dan Da Dan is seen as a significant win for Toonami, adding a fresh and highly requested series to its programming.
The addition of Dan Da Dan signifies Toonami’s continued commitment to bringing both new and popular anime to cable television, further solidifying its role as a premier destination for action and adventure anime in the United States.
