The highly anticipated original anime, previously known simply as “Turkey!”, has officially revealed its full title as “Turkey! -Time to Strike-“, alongside a shocking plot twist that fundamentally alters its premise. The anime, which premiered on July 8, 2025, in Japan and is available for international streaming on Crunchyroll, initially presented itself as a coming-of-age story centered on a high school bowling club. However, its debut episode unveiled a significant narrative turn: the five members of the Ikokkukan High School bowling team unexpectedly time-travel to Japan’s turbulent Sengoku period.
The Unveiling of a New Narrative
The revelation of a time-travel element marks a dramatic departure from the anime’s initially advertised sports-centric theme. This plot twist has been accompanied by the release of a second promotional video and a third key visual, both of which embrace the new direction. The latest visual notably features the five bowling club members alongside the newly introduced Tokura family, set against a backdrop hinting at the historical era. The shift from a straightforward bowling narrative to a blend of sports and historical fantasy adds an intriguing layer of depth and unexpected challenges for the characters.
Expanded Voice Cast and Production Details
With the introduction of the Sengoku period setting, “Turkey! -Time to Strike-” has announced five additional voice cast members who portray characters from the Tokura family. These new additions include Noriko Hidaka as Sumomo, Yuko Minaguchi as Akebi, Kikuko Inoue as Suguri, Miki Ito as Anzu, and Rei Sakuma as Natsume. These seasoned voice actors bring their talent to the anime, further enriching its character ensemble. They join the previously announced main cast, which features Hana Hishikawa as Mai Otonashi, Kana Ichinose as Rina Godai, Haruki Iwata as Sayuri Ichinose, Yuki Tenma as Nozomi Mitaka, and Ayasa Ito as Nanase Nikaido.
The anime is an original production by BAKKEN RECORD and Pony Canyon, with animation handled by Tatsunoko Production’s BAKKEN RECORD label. Susumu Kudo directs the series, with Naomi Hiruta responsible for the scripts and Airi Takekawa handling character designs. The music is composed by Yuki Hayashi. The initial description of the anime highlighted the story of Mai Otonashi, a naturally gifted bowler often called “the genius who never wins,” and her teammates as they navigate challenges and strive for victory within their high school bowling club in Chikuma City, Nagano Prefecture. The unexpected time-travel element now promises a far more complex and multifaceted narrative.
