The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Naru Narumi’s manga, Watari-kun’s * Is About to Collapse*, is set to premiere on July 4th, 2025, in Japan. The series will air on Tokyo MX, BS NTV, Sun TV, TV Kanagawa, and AT-X. Crunchyroll will also simulcast the rom-com series as it airs, bringing the chaotic world of Naoto Watari to international audiences. In addition to the release date, two new promotional videos have been unveiled, showcasing the opening and ending theme songs.

Trailers and Theme Songs: A Sneak Peek

Two new trailers have been released, offering fans a glimpse into the anime’s visuals and music.

  • Trailer 2: Features and previews the opening theme song, “Yurei ni Naritai” (I Want to be a Ghost), performed by Yuika.
  • Trailer 3: Showcases the ending theme song, “Ai Ai Ai Ai Ai” (Love Love Love Love Love), by PEDRO.

These trailers provide a taste of the anime’s tone, blending romantic comedy with underlying tensions and drama.

Story and Premise

Watari-kun’s * Is About to Collapse* follows the life of Naoto Watari, a high school student who has faced considerable hardship. Having lost his parents two years prior, he now lives with his sister at his aunt’s house. Naoto’s world revolves around protecting his younger sister, Suzushiro, earning him the reputation of having a “sister complex.”

However, Naoto’s life takes a turn when his childhood friend, Satsuki Tachibana, re-enters his life as a schoolmate. Satsuki’s arrival disrupts Naoto’s routine and ignites buried memories, leading to a clash between his devotion to Suzushiro and unresolved emotional pain. As secrets surface, Naoto’s carefully constructed world begins to crumble.

Manga Origins

The anime is based on the manga series Watari-kun’s * Is About to Collapse* written and illustrated by Naru Narumi. The manga was originally serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace magazine from August 2014 to June 2015. It later moved to Kodansha’s Monthly Young Magazine, where it ran from November 2015 to September 2023, concluding with a total of 16 volumes. Kodansha USA has licensed the manga in English.
