Tatsuhiko Takimoto’s light novel, Welcome to the NHK, which he finished writing in 2001 and was published in 2002 in Japanese (2007 in English), has two afterwords. I recently finished the anime and learned that the story was inspired by the author’s own life, Tatsuhiko Takimoto was a hikikomori himself.
