Drecom has announced that its 3D dungeon role-playing game, Wizardry Variants Daphne, will receive a manga adaptation titled Wizardry Variants Daphne ~Na mo Naki Saigo no Bōken~ (Wizardry Variants Daphne ~The Nameless Final Adventure~). The manga is slated to begin serialization on October 15, 2025, on Drecom’s DRE Comics manga website.
The upcoming manga is part of the ongoing celebrations for the Wizardry RPG franchise’s 44th anniversary. In conjunction with this milestone, September 15 has officially been certified as “Wizardry Day” by the unofficial Japan Anniversary Association, commemorating the original Wizardry game’s launch in mid-September 1981.
Delving into “Na mo Naki Saigo no Bōken”
The manga adaptation will present a fresh perspective within the world of Wizardry Variants Daphne. It promises to tell the story of adventurers as they challenge the ominous Abyss, but from the viewpoint of a new, original protagonist. This narrative approach is expected to offer fans a unique way to experience the lore and challenges of the game.
Noriyuki Fujisawa, also known as Mikado Muramasa, is credited as the artist for the manga, while Toshikiri Hamamura is responsible for the scripts. Drecom is recognized for providing the original story concept.
The Legacy of Wizardry Variants Daphne
The game Wizardry Variants Daphne itself, a modern entry in the storied Wizardry franchise, initially launched on October 15, 2024, for iOS and Android devices, offering both Japanese and English language options. A PC version for Steam followed on March 6, 2025.
The game, a free-to-play 3D dungeon RPG, continues the series’ signature first-person dungeon exploration. Its plot revolves around the Abyss, a cursed dungeon that opens every 100 years, threatening to consume the continent with death until it is sealed by a fated lineage of kings. However, with the king having vanished, the world faces imminent despair.
Drecom acquired the copyrights and trademarks for the Wizardry series in October 2020, paving the way for new titles like Wizardry Variants Daphne and its expanding multimedia presence. The Wizardry franchise holds significant cultural weight, particularly in Japan, where it has inspired numerous RPGs and maintains a dedicated fanbase since its inception in 1981.
