Toei Animation has officially announced a “Reboot Project” for the World Trigger anime, which will re-adapt the original manga by Daisuke Ashihara starting from its very first chapter. The new project, confirmed on December 11, 2025, promises a “completely new production” of the beloved sci-fi action series, with more details expected at Jump Festa 2026 on December 20, 2025.
This ambitious undertaking aims to provide a fresh take on the early arcs of World Trigger, which some fans felt were hampered by pacing issues and animation quality in the original 2014 adaptation.
A Fresh Start for Mikado City’s Defenders
The “Reboot Project” is poised to offer both long-time fans and newcomers an opportunity to experience World Trigger‘s foundational storyline with enhanced production values. Toei Animation, the studio behind the original anime, will once again be at the helm. The official X/Twitter account for the anime clarified that the project will specifically remake the first season’s storyline.
Arcs Covered in the Reboot
According to initial announcements and descriptions, the reboot will cover several key early arcs of the manga, including:
- The story beginning with Chapter 1 of the manga.
- The Border Enlistment Arc.
- The Large-Scale Invasion Arc.
- The B-Rank Wars Arc – Beginning Phase.
This content mirrors the 73 episodes of the original first season, which spanned approximately 120 chapters of the manga. The project is being described as a “powered up World Trigger 1st Season”.
Why a Reboot? Addressing Past Criticisms and Fan Hopes
The decision for a full reboot rather than a continuation has been met with significant excitement within the World Trigger fandom. The original first season, while establishing the series’ unique tactical combat and rich world-building, often faced criticism for its pacing and animation quality. Fans hope this new production will address these concerns, offering tighter pacing and improved visuals to fully capture the strategic depth and intense action of Ashihara’s manga.
The World Trigger manga, written and illustrated by Daisuke Ashihara, began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2013 before moving to Jump SQ. in December 2018 due to the author’s health issues. The series has been licensed in English by VIZ Media.
Looking Forward to Jump Festa 2026
A teaser visual featuring Yuma in his Black Trigger form and a 15-second special announcement promo have already been released, generating considerable buzz. However, concrete details regarding the reboot’s release schedule, episode count, and specific animation approach are anticipated to be unveiled at Jump Festa 2026. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned to the event on December 20, 2025, at 4:20 p.m. JST (2:20 a.m. EST) for further announcements. The project has also launched a new website.
