The popular World Trigger manga will be taking a one-issue break, with no new chapter appearing in the February 2025 issue of Shueisha’s *Jump SQ. * magazine, which shipped on January 4. The series is expected to resume publication in the March issue, scheduled to ship on February 4.
Reason for the Break
This latest hiatus is primarily to allow author Daisuke Ashihara to focus on working on the next compiled volume of the manga. While previous breaks have often been attributed to Ashihara’s health issues, which have historically impacted the manga’s serialization, this instance is specifically for compilation work. Ashihara has faced health challenges throughout the series’ run, leading to numerous hiatuses since 2016.
A History of Hiatuses
World Trigger has experienced several interruptions in its publication. The manga initially debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2013 but went on an extended hiatus from November 2016 to October 2018 due to Ashihara’s health. It briefly returned to Weekly Shonen Jump before moving to Jump SQ. in December 2018, where it has been serialized monthly.
Despite its monthly schedule, the series has had additional breaks in recent years. In 2021, the manga took several breaks, followed by four more in 2022. More recently, World Trigger had a one-month break in January 2024 due to the author’s physical health, and also in August 2023 and September 2023. The series returned in October 2023 after that break.
About World Trigger
Written and illustrated by Daisuke Ashihara, World Trigger follows the story of Osamu Mikumo, an aspiring Border agent, and Yuma Kuga, a humanoid Neighbor from another dimension, as they navigate threats from otherworldly invaders. The series has gained a significant following for its strategic battles and intricate world-building.
The manga is simultaneously published digitally in English by Viz Media and MANGA Plus, with Viz Media also offering print editions. The popularity of World Trigger extends beyond the manga, having inspired a successful anime adaptation. The first television anime season premiered in October 2014, with a sequel following in October 2015. Crunchyroll began streaming an English dub of the anime in February 2020. The second season premiered in January 2021, and the third season aired in October 2021, with Crunchyroll streaming both seasons as they aired in Japan and also offering English dubs. The franchise has also expanded into stage play adaptations, with the fifth stage play, adapting the “B-Rank Wars Final Match” arc, scheduled to run from April to May of this year.
