The official channels for the Yaiba: Samurai Legend anime have released a new promotional video and key visual, offering a glimpse into the series’ upcoming second cour. The new arc of the fantasy adventure series is set to begin airing on Saturday, June 28.
The Yaiba: Samurai Legend anime, an adaptation of Gosho Aoyama’s manga, commenced its broadcast on April 5, 2025, in Japan on YTV, NTV, and their affiliates, forming part of the “Gosho Aoyama Hour” block alongside Detective Conan. For international audiences, the series is available for streaming weekly in the U.S. on Netflix and Hulu, and on Netflix in North America, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand.
New Additions for the Second Cour
The second cour introduces a new character to the cast, Nadeshiko Yamato, voiced by Sayaka Senbongi (known for her role as Shuna in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime). Nadeshiko is a young woman whom Yaiba saved in the jungle six years prior to the story’s start, leading to her affection for him.
Musically, the anime will feature new theme songs for its continuation. The opening theme will remain “BLADE” by BLUE ENCOUNT, but it will utilize a second verse, titled “BLADE -Kizuna version-“, which conveys a different message focusing on the formation of bonds and friendships, contrasting with the first cour’s emphasis on Yaiba’s growth as a samurai. The new ending theme song for the second cour is “Action!”, performed by Kairi Yagi.
Production and Story Overview
The Yaiba: Samurai Legend anime is produced by WIT Studio, with Takahiro Hasui (known for Mob Psycho III) directing the series. Touko Machida (Kemono Michi: Rise Up) is handling the series composition, while Yoshimichi Kameda (Mob Psycho 100) serves as character designer and chief animation director. The music for the series is composed by Yutaka Yamada (VINLAND SAGA) and Yoshiaki Dewa (Hell’s Paradise). A recap video of the first cour was also released alongside the new promotional material.
The story follows Yaiba Kurogane, a young samurai who has spent his life training in the jungle with his father. Upon returning to Japan, he begins living with the Mine family and encounters Takeshi Onimaru, a formidable kendo expert who shares a similar samurai spirit. Their clashes lead to the awakening of ancient powers, the Fujinken (Wind God’s Sword) and the Raijinken (Thunder God’s Sword), setting Yaiba on a grand adventure filled with spectacle and the pursuit of the Dragon God’s Jewel in the second cour.
