Manga creator Yasu Hiromoto and artist Sayaka Itsuki are set to launch a new manga series titled Tsūkaku Tantei Tsūtenji Natsume (Pain Sensation Detective Natsume Tsūtenji) in Kadokawa’s Monthly Dragon Age magazine on October 9. Hiromoto will be responsible for the story, with Itsuki handling the artwork.
The announcement, revealed in the October issue of Monthly Dragon Age, marks a new collaboration for both established creators, promising an intriguing detective story centered around enhanced senses.
Unveiling the Premise: A World of “Super-Sensates”
Tsūkaku Tantei Tsūtenji Natsume introduces readers to Arata, a boy possessing a remarkably keen intuition. His journey begins when he encounters individuals known as “super-sensates” – people who have achieved mastery over their five senses. This premise suggests a blend of mystery, unique abilities, and perhaps a touch of the supernatural or sci-fi, as Arata navigates a world where sensory perception goes beyond the ordinary.
The collaboration brings together a writer known for action-packed narratives and an artist with a history of distinctive visual styles, hinting at a dynamic and visually engaging new series.
Meet the Creators Behind the Manga
The new series is a significant project for both Yasu Hiromoto and Sayaka Itsuki, both of whom have notable careers in the manga industry.
Yasu Hiromoto: A Prolific Storyteller
Yasu Hiromoto is recognized for his engaging storytelling. He previously launched the Tengen Hero Wars (Tengen Eiyū Taisen) manga in Coamix’s Comic Zenon magazine in 2021, collaborating with Kubaru Sakanoichi for the art. Tengen Hero Wars centers on historical heroes battling for dominance, featuring characters like Oda Nobunaga, Spartacus, William Tell, Takeda Shingen, Joan of Arc, Hannibal, and Napoleon Bonaparte in strategic and action-packed conflicts. The eighth compiled book volume of Tengen Hero Wars shipped in Japan on July 18, and Titan Comics has been releasing the manga in English, with the second volume having shipped in June 2024. Hiromoto’s involvement typically suggests a narrative rich with action, strategic depth, and compelling character interactions.
Sayaka Itsuki: An Artist with Diverse Experience
Sayaka Itsuki, the artist for Tsūkaku Tantei Tsūtenji Natsume, has a varied portfolio that showcases her artistic versatility. She is known for drawing the Marronni ☆ Yell manga, which was based on Tochigi TV’s real-life idol group. Itsuki is also credited with the original work for Sakura no Chikai, a short anime released in 2018, also connected to the idol group. Furthermore, Itsuki illustrated Mental Model Research, a spinoff manga of Ark Performance’s popular Arpeggio of Blue Steel manga. This spinoff ran in Shonengahosha’s Monthly Youngking Ours GH magazine from January 2019 to January 2020. Her past works demonstrate an ability to adapt to different genres and styles, from idol-centric stories to science fiction spin-offs.
Anticipation Builds for the October Launch
The combination of Hiromoto’s narrative prowess and Itsuki’s artistic talent positions Tsūkaku Tantei Tsūtenji Natsume as a highly anticipated addition to Kadokawa’s Monthly Dragon Age lineup. Fans of mystery, unique character abilities, and seasoned creators will be eagerly awaiting its debut on October 9. The manga’s focus on “super-sensates” and a detective with keen intuition promises a fresh take on the genre, inviting readers to delve into a world where perception is everything.
