Fans of the action-packed isekai series The Ride-On King will see its conclusion next month, as the manga by Yasushi Baba is set to end in the upcoming issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine on October 24. The announcement was made in the magazine’s current November issue.
A Five-Year Journey: Serialization and Volumes
The Ride-On King first began its serialization in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine in May 2018. Over its run, the series has captivated readers with its unique premise and dynamic action sequences. Kodansha released the manga’s 15th compiled book volume on June 9, 2025. The series has consistently delivered a blend of fantasy and martial arts since its debut.
The Vision of Creator Yasushi Baba
Written and illustrated by Yasushi Baba, The Ride-On King follows his previous work, Golosseum. Baba’s distinctive style and storytelling have been central to the manga’s appeal, earning praise for its illustrations, fight scenes, and humor.
Plot Overview: The President in a Fantasy World
The manga centers on Alexander Purchinov, also known as Alexander Plutinov, the president-for-life of the fictional country of Pursia (or Prusia). Purchinov is depicted as a master of martial arts with an insatiable desire to “ride” and conquer all manner of things, from beasts and machines to even a nation itself.
Isekai Adventure and World-Building
The narrative truly kicks off when Purchinov, after surviving a terrorist attack, finds himself transported to a fantastical world teeming with monsters and magic. In this new realm, he encounters creatures like orcs, wyverns, and centaurs, offering him new challenges and, more importantly, new things to “ride.” The manga is known for its expansive world-building, funny characters, and a fresh take on the isekai genre, distinguishing it from many other similar stories. Critics have highlighted the unique setting and compelling character designs as strong points of the series.
Legacy of “The Ride-On King”
As The Ride-On King prepares for its final chapter, it leaves behind a legacy as a memorable entry in the modern manga landscape. Its unique blend of political satire (with its protagonist often noted for his resemblance to Vladimir Putin) and classic fantasy adventure has garnered a dedicated readership. While an English publisher (Sol Press) initially licensed the series, they released only one volume before becoming defunct. Despite this, the manga has been available through various platforms and fan translations, allowing a broader audience to follow President Purchinov’s epic quest to ride everything in a magical new world.
