Yōsuke Kaneda’s popular manga series, The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch (Japanese: Kuroneko to Majo no Kyōshitsu), is officially receiving a television anime adaptation, set to premiere in 2026. The announcement was made on Tuesday with the opening of an official website, which also revealed key cast members, staff, and a teaser promotional video for the upcoming series.
About The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch
The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch is a fantasy romantic comedy manga written and illustrated by Yōsuke Kaneda, known for his previous work, Boarding School Juliet. The series began serialization on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket website and app on March 16, 2022. Kodansha also publishes the series in English on their K Manga service. As of May 9, 2025, the manga has 11 volumes in Japan.
The story centers on Spica Virgo, a witch apprentice who struggles to use magic. To achieve her dream of entering a prestigious magic school, the Royal Diana Academy, she desperately needs a mentor but lacks both money and connections. Her life changes when she encounters Claude Sirius, a mysterious black cat who can speak and wields magic, but has been transformed into a feline due to a curse. Spica’s desire to master sorcery aligns with Claude’s longing to break his curse, leading them to form a secret master-apprentice pact. The manga’s narrative playfully hints that the key to breaking Claude’s curse involves a kiss.
