The highly anticipated television anime adaptation of Kamio Fukuchi’s romantic comedy manga series, Yowayowa Sensei (also known as Yowayowa Teacher or Ms. Feeble), has officially announced its main voice cast and is slated to premiere in Japan in April 2026. This exciting news comes alongside the release of a new teaser visual, building anticipation for the upcoming series.
Key Voice Cast Members Announced
Leading the cast are two prominent voice actors who will bring the endearing characters of Hiyori Hiwamura and Akihito Abikura to life.
Marika Kōno as Hiyori Hiwamura
Marika Kōno, known for her roles such as Mahiro Oyama in ONIMAI: I’m Now Your Sister!, will lend her voice to the titular character, Hiyori Hiwamura. Hiwamura is a newly assigned English teacher, 22 years old, who struggles with zero stamina, a soft voice, and severe stage fright. Her inherent weakness leads to misunderstandings, causing students to nickname her “Kowakowa Sensei” (Scary-Scary Sensei), though she is genuinely devoted to her students. Kōno previously voiced Hiyori in a promotional video for the manga, making her return to the role a welcome announcement for fans.
Kakeru Hatano as Akihito Abikura
Joining Kōno is Kakeru Hatano, who will voice Akihito Abikura. Hatano is recognized for his work as Nijiro Nanase in BLUE LOCK. Akihito is a second-year high school student who desires a peaceful school life. He discovers the true nature of Hiwamura-sensei, realizing she is not scary but merely misunderstood due to her shyness, and takes it upon himself to help her overcome her difficulties and clear up misconceptions.
Anime Adaptation Details and Premise
The TV anime adaptation of Yowayowa Sensei is being produced by Brain’s Base, with Hiroshi Ishiodori listed as the director. The romantic comedy follows the heartwarming and often mischievous interactions between the shy teacher and her understanding student.
The Story of “Scary-Scary Sensei”
The manga, written and illustrated by Kamio Fukuchi, began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in November 2022. The narrative centers on Akihito Abikura, a second-year high school student whose new homeroom teacher is Hiyori Hiwamura. Despite her gentle and weak nature, her shyness and a notebook full of sticky notes lead students to misinterpret her actions, giving her the intimidating moniker “Scary Teacher” or “Kowakowa Sensei,” with rumors circulating that she might curse those who displease her.
Akihito, however, witnesses a different side of Hiyori after school, discovering her true, weak-willed (or “yowayowa”) personality. Recognizing her genuine dedication to her students, Akihito decides to help Hiyori overcome her shyness and navigate her teaching career, often finding himself in amusing and endearing situations with her. The series promises a blend of romantic comedy and slice-of-life elements, focusing on the “gap moe” appeal of Hiyori’s contrasting public image and private self.
Anticipation for the April 2026 Release
The announcement of the main cast and the April 2026 debut has been met with enthusiasm from fans of the manga. Author Kamio Fukuchi also shared a celebratory illustration and a message, expressing honor for the opportunity and hoping that more people will connect with and grow to like the characters through the anime adaptation. The anime’s official website released a teaser visual featuring Hiyori Hiwamura, further fueling excitement for the upcoming series. Kodansha continues to publish the manga, with 14 tankōbon volumes released as of September 2025 and the 15th compiled volume scheduled for November 17.
