The highly anticipated CG anime Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express, a sequel to the popular short Milky☆Highway, has announced that renowned singer and voice actress Yukari Tamura will join its cast. Tamura is set to voice the character Minami Minase, a celebrated idol within the anime’s universe. Furthermore, she will lend her vocal talents to the anime’s insert song, “Tokimeki☆Meteostrike.”
A New Galactic Journey Unfolds
Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express continues the quirky and chaotic adventures established in its predecessor. The story centers on Chiharu, a super-human, and Makina, a cyborg, who find themselves in trouble for violating space traffic laws. As a form of community service, they are tasked with cleaning the interplanetary train known as the “Milky☆Subway.” However, what begins as a seemingly straightforward job quickly escalates into pandemonium when the train unexpectedly rockets into deep space, throwing its crew of misfits into a frenzied scramble amidst unfolding chaos.
The project is largely the brainchild of animator Yohei Kameyama, who is credited with writing, directing, producing, and handling sound production and character design for Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express. Kameyama also took on many other roles, including modeling, animation, and editing, for this one-man production.
Premiere and Global Reach
The CG anime is scheduled to premiere on July 3, airing on TOKYO MX in Japan and simultaneously streaming on YouTube. In a move to reach a global audience, dubbed versions of the anime will be made available on YouTube in ten languages, including English, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, French, Hindi, and Russian.
Expanded Voice Cast
Beyond Yukari Tamura’s significant role, Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express boasts a talented ensemble cast:
- Momoka Terasawa as Chiharu
- Anna Nagase as Makina
- Hisako Kanemoto as Akane
- Makoto Koichi as Kanata
- Koki Uchiyama as Kurt
- Yoshitaka Yamaya as Max
- Mikako Komatsu as Ryoko
The anime’s theme song is “Gingakei Made Tonde Ike!” (Fly to the Galaxy!), originally a 1977 track by the Japanese girl group Candies. The original Milky☆Highway short, released in 2022 as Kameyama’s graduation project, garnered over 6.7 million views, setting the stage for this highly anticipated sequel.
