Manga artist Yuki Higashiura has announced that her “Mamoribito” (Demonsitter) series will conclude with its next chapter, set to be released in late November. The announcement was made on Thursday via Higashiura’s X (formerly Twitter) account, marking the end of the adventure-comedy series that debuted in 2021.
The Journey of a Demonsitter
“Mamoribito” has captivated readers with its unique premise, following the misadventures of Ariaris, a clumsy ranger who unexpectedly finds herself working as a demon babysitter. The series is set within the fantastical and perilous environment of a massive dragon’s stomach, which swallowed a country a century ago. Adventurers initially entered the dragon in search of treasure, but some, like Ariaris, became trapped. She is eventually taken in by Lemon, who runs a “Mamoribito” business, dedicated to caring for the offspring of demons.
The manga blends elements of adventure, comedy, fantasy, and slice-of-life, appealing to a seinen demographic, primarily published in Shonengahosha’s Young King Ours magazine. The narrative offers a fresh take on the fantasy genre by combining monster-rearing with an adventurous backdrop.
