Kadokawa has begun streaming a teaser promotional video for Isekai Quartet 3, the highly anticipated third season of the popular chibi-style crossover anime series. The announcement confirms the continuation of the beloved franchise, which brings together characters from various Kadokawa-published isekai light novel series. The upcoming season is set to introduce new characters, significantly expanding its already diverse roster.
New Worlds Join the Crossover Classroom
The third season, officially titled Isekai Quartet 3, will notably welcome characters from The Eminence in Shadow to the ensemble. This inclusion means fans can expect to see Cid Kagenou and members of Shadow Garden interacting with established fan favorites like Ainz Ooal Gown (Overlord), Subaru Natsuki (Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-), Kazuma Satou (KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!), and Tanya Degurechaff (The Saga of Tanya the Evil). A teaser visual released alongside the announcement features these new additions alongside familiar faces in their signature chibi forms.
Voice actor Seiichirō Yamashita will reprise his role as Cid Kagenou/Shadow for Isekai Quartet 3, ensuring continuity with The Eminence in Shadow series. Additionally, Asami Seto will provide voices for both Raphtalia from The Rising of the Shield Hero and Alpha and CZ2128 Delta from The Eminence in Shadow and Overlord respectively, showcasing the cross-franchise voice talent.
Returning Talent Behind the Scenes
The core creative team responsible for the previous seasons and the theatrical film will return for Isekai Quartet 3. Minoru Ashina is once again helming the project as both director and scriptwriter at Studio Puyukai. Minoru Takehara will reprise his roles as character designer and chief animation director, while Ruka Kawada is set to compose the music. Light Tuchihi, the creator of The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious, is also credited for original work collaboration, hinting at potential further integration or thematic influence.
The returning voice cast includes many familiar names, such as Yūsuke Kobayashi as Subaru and Warren Grantz, Satoshi Hino as Ainz, Jun Fukushima as Kazuma, Aoi Yūki as Tanya, Kaito Ishikawa as Naofumi Iwatani, Rie Takahashi as Emilia and Megumin, Yumi Hara as Albedo, and Sora Amamiya as Aqua, among others.
The Legacy of Isekai Quartet
Isekai Quartet first premiered in April 2019, bringing together characters from Overlord, KonoSuba, Re:ZERO, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil into a charmingly comedic school setting. The second season, which debuted in January 2020, expanded the roster to include characters from The Rising of the Shield Hero and Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious. A sequel film, Gekijо̄ban Isekai Quartet ~Another World~, was released in Japanese theaters in June 2022, further developing the crossover narrative.
The series is known for its short-episode format, comedic interactions, and “chibi” art style, which exaggerates character proportions for humorous effect. It has gained a reputation for its meta-jokes and exploration of genre clichés through the interactions of characters from vastly different fantasy worlds.
While no official release date has been confirmed for Isekai Quartet 3, industry speculation based on previous season announcements and the movie’s release timeline suggests a potential premiere sometime in the first half of 2026. Fans are eagerly awaiting more updates and trailers for the continuation of this unique anime crossover.
