Story Synopsis: A Maid, a Misanthrope, and a Secret
Mechanical Marie follows the story of Marie, a skilled martial artist who, for mysterious reasons, hides her human identity and takes on the role of a “mechanical maid” in the mansion of Arthur. Arthur is the heir to a powerful conglomerate, yet he holds a deep-seated contempt for humans. Marie’s primary mission is to protect Arthur from a constant barrage of assassins, often sent by other family members vying for his inheritance.
The comedic and romantic tension arises as Marie must maintain her emotionless, robotic facade while fulfilling her duties and secretly fending off threats. Complications increase as Arthur, who is doting and affectionate towards his “mechanical” maid, unknowingly comes close to discovering her true human identity, risking her life in the process. The series promises a heartwarming romantic comedy filled with laughter and perilous close calls as the lie between master and servant slowly gives way to an unexpected romance.
The original manga by Aki Akimoto was serialized in Hakusensha’s LaLa shōjo manga magazine from June 2020 to June 2023, concluding with six tankōbon volumes. Yen Press has licensed the manga for English publication. A sequel series, Mechanical Marie+, began serialization in LaLa in April 2025, a testament to the manga’s enduring popularity.
