Crunchyroll has announced a wave of significant anime acquisitions, including the highly anticipated third season of Oshi no Ko, the new feature film That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea, and a host of other exciting titles. These additions are set to further solidify Crunchyroll’s position as a premier global destination for anime fans.
Oshi no Ko Season 3 Confirmed for Crunchyroll
Fans of the popular idol-turned-mystery series Oshi no Ko can rejoice, as Crunchyroll has officially acquired the streaming rights for its third season. Oshi no Ko Season 3 is slated to premiere in January 2026, building on the critical and commercial success of its predecessors. The new season is expected to delve deeper into the manga’s “Mainstay Arc,” focusing more heavily on Ruby Hoshino’s progression in the entertainment industry and her role in a fictional web variety show called “Dig Deep”. The voice cast is also confirmed to include Mamoru Miyano as Hikaru Kamiki and Hina Kino as Tsukuyomi.
The series, which premiered in April 2023, quickly garnered widespread acclaim for its dark premise and incisive critiques of the entertainment industry. The second season concluded in October 2024, leaving fans eager for the continuation of the captivating storyline.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea
In another major announcement, Crunchyroll has secured the worldwide theatrical rights (excluding most Asian territories) for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea. This all-new standalone story is the second film in the immensely popular That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime franchise, which is also available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The movie is animated by studio 8-Bit and features an original story supervised by Fuse, the creator of the light novel series.
The film is set to premiere in Japan on February 27, 2026, with international theatrical dates to be announced by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment. The story will follow Rimuru and his companions as they visit a private resort island, only to encounter a mysterious woman named Yura and the brewing shadows of a new crisis. This continues the franchise’s cinematic ventures, following the successful That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: The Movie – Scarlet Bond, which Crunchyroll also screened outside of Asia in early 2023.
Additional Anime Acquisitions for Fall 2025 and Beyond
Crunchyroll’s acquisition spree extends beyond these tentpole titles, with a robust lineup for the Fall 2025 anime season and into 2026. The company recently hosted a panel at AnimagiC 2025 in Mannheim, Germany, where they unveiled a new wave of titles across various genres including isekai, sci-fi, romantic comedy, and dark fantasy.
Notable acquisitions confirmed for October 2025 premieres include:
- My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s: Animated by SUNRISE, this series follows Akira Oda, who gains mediocre “assassin” abilities in another world but quickly surpasses the “hero” profession.
- This Monster Wants to Eat Me: From Studio LINGS, this anime introduces Hinako, a girl whose exceptionally delicious flesh attracts monsters, and the mermaid Shiori who vows to protect her until she’s “perfect” to be devoured.
- The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King: Animated by Jumondo, this series explores a world centuries after a western war.
- Mechanical Marie: Studios Zero-G and Liber co-produce this anime about Marie, a former martial artist working as a “robot” while concealing her human identity.
- Plus-sized Misadventures in Love!: From Studio Marvy Jack, this romantic comedy follows Yumeko, who gains a super positive personality after an accident.
Looking ahead to 2026, Crunchyroll has also announced “Coming Soon” titles such as Alma-chan Wants to Be a Family! (Studio Flad) and The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife (project No. 9). Many of these series will be available worldwide, excluding Asia, with some exceptions for specific regions like India and the Indian subcontinent.
These acquisitions, coupled with ongoing popular series like My Hero Academia Final Season, One-Punch Man Season 3, and SPY x FAMILY Season 3, ensure a diverse and exciting slate of content for anime enthusiasts on Crunchyroll.
