The popular anime series, Go! Go! Loser Ranger!, is set to return for its second season on April 13, 2025. The announcement came with the unveiling of a new main visual, generating excitement among fans. The series, known for its unique take on the superhero genre, will continue to be streamed exclusively on Disney+.

Season 2 Release Date and Broadcast Details

The premiere date for Go! Go! Loser Ranger! Season 2 is officially set for April 13, 2025. Episodes will air every Sunday at 11:30 PM JST on 28 CBC/TBS affiliated channels as part of the “Agaru Anime” programming block. This release follows the first season, which aired from April to June 2024, also with 12 episodes. The series will be available to viewers worldwide through Disney+. While there is no specific mention of Hulu, Disney+ titles often appear on Hulu in the United States.

New Main Visual and Story Hints

The newly released main visual offers a glimpse into the setting and characters of the upcoming season. It portrays a classroom within an abandoned school, hinting that the season may take place in a “closed school” environment. The visual features several key characters with intense gazes:

  • Kanon Hisui: A Junior First Class member of the Green Battalion, who looks intently ahead.
  • Fighter D: Disguised as the new recruit, Hibiki Sakurama.
  • Angel Usukubo: A new recruit, adding fresh dynamics to the plot.
  • Chitose: A mysterious informant.

The visual also includes a tagline in Japanese, translating to “Reveal that Madness,” suggesting a deeper exploration of the series’ themes.

Production Team and Cast

Yostar Pictures is once again handling the animation production, with Keiichi Sato returning as the director. The series composition is helmed by Keiichiro Ochi, known for his work on Under Ninja. Other returning staff members include Kahoko Kosei for character design, Kenji Hayama as animation supervisor, and Yoshihiro Ike as the music composer. The voice cast includes Yusuke Kobayashi as the voice of Footsoldier D, Daishi Kajita as Hibiki Sakurama and Yumika Yano as Yumeko Suzukiri.

Synopsis and Series Overview

Go! Go! Loser Ranger! is based on the manga series written and illustrated by Negi Haruba, which has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since February 2021. The manga has sold over 20 million copies and has 17 tankobon volumes as of January 2025.

The story is set in a world where, thirteen years ago, the Villainous Army attempted to invade Earth. They were opposed by the Divine Dragon Rangers (also known as the Dragon Keepers), who seemingly defeated the invaders. However, the truth is much more complex. The Dragon Keepers have enslaved the remaining foot soldier monsters (Dusters) to stage fake weekly battles for fame and public adoration.

Fighter D, a low-ranking Duster, decides he has had enough of the humiliating weekly defeats and seeks to take down the Dragon Keepers by infiltrating their ranks. He disguises himself as a Ranger cadet, encountering various challenges and shifting alliances within the Dragon Keeper organization. This premise offers a unique perspective on the superhero genre, exploring themes of celebrity, deception, and the often-overlooked perspectives of the “villains.”

Streaming Platforms

Season 1 is currently available on Hulu and Disney+. Season 2 will be available exclusively on Disney+ worldwide.

Critical Reception

The first season of Go! Go! Loser Ranger! has received mixed reviews. While some praise the anime for its meta-fictional approach, humor, and unique perspective on the superhero genre, others criticize its fight scenes and plot execution. Some viewers felt that the fights lacked the excitement and intensity they expected from a Power Rangers-esque series. Despite some criticisms, many viewers find the premise fascinating, with its critique of the cult of celebrity and exploration of the “villain’s” perspective. The manga has also received positive reviews for its concept, art and compelling main character, as well as its snarky action filled style and unique approach.

Go! Go! Loser Ranger! : A Unique Superhero Parody

Go! Go! Loser Ranger! offers a fresh and engaging take on the well-established superhero genre by subverting typical tropes. The series delves into the complexities of fame and public image, exposing the artificiality behind the seemingly heroic actions of the Dragon Keepers. The storyline places emphasis on the often overlooked perspective of the monsters, painting them as victims of a twisted system. This satirical approach and the constant twists in the narrative are what have captured the attention of audiences, making it a must watch for those seeking a different experience from traditional superhero stories. The show has been compared to series such as “The Boys”, due to its similar themes of questioning the integrity of supposed heroes and the corruption of power.

The second season promises to delve deeper into this world, with new characters and a setting that hints at even more complex dynamics and plot developments, and will surely appeal to fans of the series and newcomers alike.
