Synopsis of Mechanical Marie
The Mechanical Marie series, based on Aki Akimoto’s manga which concluded its serialization in June 2023, centers on Marie Evans, a former martial arts prodigy. Drowning in debt, Marie accepts a peculiar offer: to pose as a “mechanical maid” in the mansion of Arthur, a wealthy heir who harbors a deep distrust for humans. Marie, known for her expressionless face, seamlessly fulfills her duties while secretly protecting Arthur from constant assassination attempts. The comedic premise unfolds as Arthur, smitten with his “mechanical” maid, dotes on her, complicating Marie’s mission to keep her true human identity a secret—a discovery that would lead to her immediate execution. The manga was initially a one-shot in Hakusensha’s LaLa magazine in March 2020 before its serialization. A sequel series, Mechanical Marie+, began serialization in LaLa in April 2025.
