The popular anime series Cells at Work!! is set to return to Netflix with its second season. Fans of the anthropomorphic edutainment show will be able to stream all eight episodes of Season 2 starting February 1st. This announcement comes from Aniplex of America, which revealed the news on X (formerly Twitter). The episodes will be available with both English and Japanese audio, accompanied by subtitles.

A Look Inside the Human Body

Cells at Work!, created by Akane Shimizu, presents a unique perspective on the human body. The story unfolds within the body, where various cells are personified as characters. The series follows the daily lives of these cells, from the hardworking red blood cells delivering oxygen to the vigilant white blood cells fighting off pathogens.

The anime has been praised for its ability to blend education with entertainment, making the complex processes of the human body accessible and engaging. The first season debuted in July 2018 and quickly gained a dedicated fanbase for its unique premise and charming characters.

Season 2 Details

The second season of Cells at Work!! originally aired in Japan from January to March 2021. It consists of eight episodes, a shorter run than the first season’s 13 episodes. Despite its shorter length, the second season continues the series’ blend of humor and education, exploring various biological functions and health issues.

While Netflix will be adding the second season, it’s important to note that the spin-off series, Cells at Work! CODE BLACK, will not be included in this release. Cells at Work! CODE BLACK offers a darker, more mature take on the inner workings of the human body, focusing on the struggles of cells in an unhealthy environment.

Where Else to Watch

If you’re eager to dive into the world of Cells at Work!, here are some platforms where the series can be streamed:

  • Crunchyroll: Both seasons of the original Cells at Work! are available on Crunchyroll, with options for Japanese and English dubbed versions, as well as subtitles.
  • Funimation: Funimation also offers access to Cells at Work!, including an English dub for the second season, which was released in 2021.
  • Amazon Prime Video: Both seasons are available with a Crunchyroll add-on.
  • JioCinema: Some episodes of Cells at Work! are available on JioCinema for free with ads.

The Appeal of Cells at Work!

The series’ success lies in its ability to make complex biological concepts relatable through its anthropomorphic characters. The audience can witness the daily challenges faced by cells, such as the relentless efforts of red blood cells, the constant battles of white blood cells, and the organizational skills of the platelets. The show brings the microscopic world to life in an action-packed, yet humorous, manner.

The English dub cast for the series includes:

  • Cherami Leigh as Red Blood Cell
  • Billy Kametz as White Blood Cell (Neutrophil)
  • Robbie Daymond as Killer T Cell/Memory T Cell
  • Laura Post as Macrophage
  • Xanthe Huynh as Platelet

What to Expect in Season 2

Season 2 continues the adventures within the human body, featuring both familiar and new challenges for the cells. Here’s a quick look at the episode titles:

  • S2 E1 – Bump
  • S2 E2 – Acquired Immunity/Peyer’s Patch
  • S2 E3 – Dengue Fever/Acne
  • S2 E4 – H. Pylori/Antigenic Shift
  • S2 E5 – Cytokines
  • S2 E6 – Harmful Bacteria
  • S2 E7 – Cancer Cell II (Part I)
  • S2 E8 – Cancer Cell II (Part II)

These episodes cover a range of topics, from the immune system’s response to infections to the dangers of cancer cells. The series maintains its balance of educational content and entertaining storylines, making it a great watch for all ages.

While some fans have noted that Season 2 feels like a rehash of Season 1, it still offers the same charm and educational value. The series is great for anyone looking for a fun, insightful look into the biology of the human body.

Streaming Details

The addition of Cells at Work!! Season 2 is a welcome addition to Netflix’s anime library.
